The Canby Singers
New York, NY
chorale group
Since 1956, The Canby Singers have plumbed the diverse a cappella repertoire for lost gems and new masterpieces, performing their musical finds in concert and on recordings for Nonesuch and Telarc. Founded by the noted musicologist Edward Canby, the chamber choir has long been renowned for its early-music expertise. Under the current direction of Dr. Sheila Schonbrun, the ensemble continues to push the boundaries of choral performance and to educate and entertain its audiences, drawing from a repertoire that spans seven centuries and includes innumerable compositional styles. Recognizing the vital importance of contemporary music, the ensemble also regularly performs and premieres new works.
