2010 Tanne Award Recipient
Macon, GA
playwright

Steve Murray is a playwright and arts journalist based in the Southeast (currently Macon, Georgia). He graduated with honors from Oxford College of Emory University (Oxford, Georgia) and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. For more that 20 years he was an award-winning film, theater, book critic and reporter for Atlanta, and continues to contribute to the arts blog, www.artscriticatl.com. His plays include Hungry to Bed, Rescue & Recovery, Mileage, This Passion Thing and many more, which have been produced nationally. His work has been commissioned by Actor’s Express and Theater Emory in Atlanta, and Portland Center Stage in Oregon. He is currently working on a screenplay version of This Passion Thing, a stage adaptation of a seminal French novel, and is making notes for his own novel about a Northern boy’s culture-shock introduction to the South. His plays touch on the elusive nature of truth, the potential in humanity for great kindness and unthinking cruelty a, and the crazy things people sometimes do for love. But always with humor, ON because that’s what keeps us human.
