Nyack, New York
playwright/actor/director

Peter Handyis a published Playwright with an M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing from Mason Gross School of the Arts. Peter is dedicated to crafting stories that reveal how transcendent love can awaken the human spirit. His works explore a recurring theme: the schism between the core values of human beings and the lifestyles that they feel culturally impelled to lead. Peter’s published plays include: East of the Sun & West of the Moon (Samuel French, Inc.) and Friendship (Vintage Books). Mason Gross School of the Arts produced his plays: Tracing Nora, The Infinite Dust, and Red Flags. Within the New York area, Peter has worked as a playwright with EST, Circle East, and PSNBC at Here, and interned at The McCarter Theatre. Peter was the Founder of First Light Productions in Portland, Oregon and a playwright with The Foothill Theatre Company.  Current projects include an original television pilot titled Stateside (which examines the psychological damage war has had on veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars), a theater project titled Born With Wings (which examines how individual artists, with idiosyncratic sensibilities, negotiate “groupthink”), and an autobiographical play titled Scenes Through a Lifetime.
