Patricia "Melo Gía" Lewis

Born to a Puerto Rican mother and an African American father from Philadelphia, Patricia "Melo Gi­a" Lewis has set out to build a sound that captures exactly who she is. Her music blends poetic Latin bohemian lyricism with a soulful twist and strong jazz influences, telling stories of love, loss, climate displacement, and growing up as a bicultural woman on the island of Puerto Rico. She draws directly from her experience of becoming a refugee in New York after Hurricane Maria in 2017, and from the years since spent rebuilding balance, love, friendship, and purpose in the United States. As an artist, she is known for speaking strongly about Puerto Rico’s colonial struggle and educating audiences about its history. Sung in three languages (English, Spanish, and Portuguese), "Latin Bohemian Soul" is a fresh sound painted on a canvas holding every color of her musical influences. Her clean, melodic voice, broad vocal register, and ability to translate emotion into heartfelt song leave no doubt as to why people call her Melo Gia: melody.
