Site specific performance art
Out of Hand Theater works at the intersection of art, social justice, and civic engagement. It uses the tools of theater to support and enhance the work of community partners. Out of Hand produces Shows in Homes, Civic Collaborations, and Creative Kids. Shows in Home addresses social issues such as gun violence and mass incarceration, with cocktail parties and conversations with community partners, including Moms Demand Action and Georgia Justice Project. Equitable Dinners: Lift Every Voice, a free, monthly, online conversation series on racial equity featuring art, experts, and small-group conversations, is a partnership with National Center for Civil and Human Rights and The King Center, among others. Through Creative Kids, Out Of Hand helps close the opportunity gap for low-income students and students of color through free in-school and after school programs at high-poverty schools. Out of Hand has been featured in the New York Times, American Theatre Magazine, and NPR’s “All Things Considered”.
