Based in Boston, Massachusetts, Mobius, Inc. (est. 1977) is a 501c3 non-profit, tax-exempt, artist-run organization, whose mission is to generate, shape and test experimental art. Mobius is operated by Mobius Artists Group, who are a collaborative of individual working artists who value innovation, vulnerability, artistic development, and non-hierarchical relationships of mutual respect among its members. Respecting the integrity and the empowerment of each member, Mobius is committed to an ethics of inclusion by prioritizing racial, ethnic, generic, sexual, age, class, religion, and ability diversity among its members. The Mobius Artists Group believe an effective strategy for supporting their art is to establish grounds that build relationships among fellow artists. Mobius is committed to structuring contexts that foster projects incorporating a wide range of disciplines. This approach sets in motion situations where the artist’s impact can be seen locally, nationally and internationally. Constructing art initiatives outside accepted frameworks and encouraging animated discourse with the public are fundamental to Mobius. The Mobius Artists Group create original, experimental work in different media including but not limited to performance art, installation, film, video, new music, sound art, dance, collaborative and interdisciplinary work. Mobius is recognized as one of the seminal alternative artist-run organization in the US and has presented work involving thousands of artists over the past 45+ years. Works created by its members have been presented throughout North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Several notable exchanges with artists from Ireland and the UK, Croatia, North Macedonia, Poland and Taiwan have focused on public sites as incubators for discourse.

Mobius’s publication, This Moment: missives from another world, features Mobius member Bob Raymond’s highly acclaimed photographic collection documenting thirty years of work by Mobius Artists Group members and visiting artists. The Mobius archives, acquired by Tufts University, are an embodiment and a reflection of its times as well as a window into the works and practice of contemporary artists.
