Michael Pope

2000 Tanne Award Recipient
New York, NY
film producer / director / writer

Michael Pope is a film producer, director, editor, and writer with a distinctive body of work in the underground film world. He has produced, directed, and edited several short films and videos. Pope’s directorial credentials include a Nova award-winning teleplay, Dust of the Road. One of his many independent film projects is now in development with Fox TV as a television series. Michael’s aesthetic and philosophic appreciation of Asian martial arts figures thematically and artistically in his first feature film, Neovoxer, a fantasy epic about three friends who go on a dangerous quest for the spiritual heart of the universe. To get feedback on the film, which has no dialogue but is accompanied by music and sound effects, the film was recently preformed live at Mobius Artists Group where the audience was invited to share their perceptions of the work. Two workshop performances with live music by 10 musicians were held in November of 2001 at the Milky Way and the Jorge Hernandez Cultural Center in Boston. Additional shows are being planned for future performances.
