Katherine Doughty

2024 Tanne Award Recipient
Portland, Maine
Multimodal Artist

Katherine Doughty studied visual art, postmodern dance and somantics at Hampshire College. She works in painting, drawing, printmaking, art jewelry, ivory free scrimshaw, poetry, and performance. For ten years her visual work focused on landscape. In 1999, while attending school for massage therapy, her focus shifted to figure, and she began a series of self-portraits inspired by the alphabet which became the 18-year project "In My Own Language". In 2015, following extensive cancer treatment, Katharine relocated to California to study at Tamalpa Institute. Returning east in 2022, she continues work on "Finding the Ocean": a found object jewelry collection, and developing performance related to both projects.
