Jeffery Byrd is a performance artist whose work explores the metaphoric potential of the human body and the relationships between reality and artifice through video, movement, original music, and otherworldly vocals. Byrd regularly presents work in galleries and festivals in major cities throughout the United States. He has performed at Lincoln Center, the Alternative Museum, and Chashama in New York City, N.A.M.E Gallery and Links Hall in Chicago, the Institute for Contemporary Art in Boston, Full Nelson Festival in Los Angeles, the Nexus Foundation in Philadelphia, Cleveland International Performance Art Festival, and the Indianapolis Installation Festival. Recent performances in Wales and Poland have led to well-deserved international recognition. Born and raised in Alabama, Byrd is a professor at the University of Northern Iowa.
