Ivelisse Rodriguez is a fiction writer born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and raised in Holyoke, MA. Her debut short story collection, Love War Stories, is littered with cautionary tales of characters on the cusp of romance who covet, wrestle with, and fight to subvert their familial and cultural legacies of suffering from, and for, love. Love War Stories was a 2019 PEN/Faulkner finalist and a 2018 Foreword Reviews INDIES finalist. Rodriguez’s fiction has appeared in the Boston Review, Obsidian, Kweli, the Bilingual Review, Aster(ix), and other publications. She is a contributing arts editor for the Boston Review and the founder and editor of an interview series focused on contemporary Puerto Rican writers in order to highlight the current status and the continuity of a Puerto Rican literary tradition. Rodriguez was a senior fiction editor at Kweli and is a Kimbilio fellow and a VONA/Voices alum. She has taught creative writing at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, University of Arizona, University of Missouri-St. Louis, and numerous writing centers across the country.
