Frank Licato
Weehawken, New Jersey
Director/Actor
Frank Licato is a director, actor, and teacher, who has been making theatre for over 40 years. Frank is interested in theatre that is intimate and socially challenging. He believes that the theatre is a place where direct contact can be made and expressed through physicality, rhythm, gesture and emotional intensity. He believes that theatre should be accessible to everyone so in 2013, he founded Hudson Theatre Works, a professional Equity theatre company located in New Jersey, where he serves as Artistic Director. The theatre chooses material that is aesthetically diverse and rooted in authenticity. He believes the work comes first and risk is to be embraced. He has worked with Joseph Chaikin and Peter Brook and while in Boston, he was consistently named to best actor lists and was named best actor in Boston for his performance in the American premiere of Judgment. He has appeared in film and TV, including Sidney Lumet’s 100 Centre Street with Alan Arkin and First Deadly Sin with Frank Sinatra. His directing credits include an Applause Award from the New Jersey Theatre Alliance and Perry Award for Best Director for The Grapes of Wrath at the Chatham Playhouse. His production of On the Waterfront was made into the award-winning documentary, Waiting for Budd. He is a member of the Playwright and Director Unit of the Actors Studio. In the past year the Tanne Award allowed him to work on Macbeth, an acclaimed Uncle Vanya set in NJ, and, after many years, to get back on stage in Pinter’s The Caretaker.
