Elizabeth Marrero is a performance artist/comedian/drag king. Marrero, also known as Macha, the papi chulo drag king, burst onto the club scene with her drag king act in 1999 and continues to present this character in diverse manifestations. She began her performance career with dancer/choreographer Arthur Aviles, performing the role of Maeva in over a dozen dance pieces for the past 15 years. In 2003 she appeared in Arthurella at Dance Theatre Workshop. In 2001 she premiered Machataso: A One Woman Cho’ in BAAD! ASS WOMEN 2001 which had a three week, sold-out, extended run. Since then she has premiered her subsequent one-woman shows, Macha Does Vegas in 2002, Petronelia’s Finca in 2003, Petronelia: Her Broadway Cho’ in 2004 and The Macha Monologues in 2005. For “Out Like That” in June 2006, Marrero produced and performed the first ever drag king extravaganza at BAAD!, giving other performance artists an opportunity to shine In November 2006 Marrero introduces her sixth one- woman comedy show at BAAD!.

Marrero has performed at Joe’s Pub and other major clubs in New York City as well as internationally. She lives in the Bronx where she was born.. In 2003 she received a BRIO (Bronx Recognizes Its Own) Award from the Bronx Council on the Arts.
