Blake Beckham

2013 Tanne Award Recipient
Decatur, GA
Choreographer

Blake Beckham is a choreographer, performing artist and curator. She co-directs The Lucky Penny, a nonprofit that serves as a production outlet for her choreography. Blake is working towards the debut of a new work to premiere in Atlanta during July 2014. Dearly Departures  is a 70-minute choreographic work that contemplates distance, leaving and loss. It references imagery of transit and communication to elicit the complexities of literally and figuratively staying-in-touch.  Another major professional goal of hers is to invest more fully in her leadership as the Executive Director of The Lucky Penny. The Board of Directors voted to make her the organizations first employee. For the first time in 14-years of self-producing work, Blake will get paid. This is a game-changing opportunity for her to create a more viable arts organization and a sustainable artistic practice. She successfully produced a dance-theater work called Hidden Away, a site-specific immersive work performed inside public libraries.
