John Miguel Shakespear is a writer and musician known for exploring the intersections between his disciplines. As a songwriter and bandleader, his two full-length records have received attention from NPR, American Songwriter, and the Boston Globe, earning comparisons to Fleet Foxes and Elliott Smith. His fiction and nonfiction – which often explore music’s role in society and the lives of musicians – have been published in journals such as The Believer, Cincinnati Review, and Gulf Coast. John was a Creative Writing Fellow at Vanderbilt University’s Curb Center for Art, Enterprise and Public Policy, and his work has been supported by the Vermont Studio Center, Vanderbilt University, and the New York State Writers Institute. He works in arts administration at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
